Microsoft has officially announced a financing plan allowing you to pay monthly for a console, Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass. This is the best deal in town for people who do not want to find the best deal in town.
For the uninitiated, here's the point: Microsoft offers a new finance contract that allows you to buy a new Xbox One without paying a dime. Instead, you pay a monthly fee for the console, plus a subscription to Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass for two years. After that, you own the console. You have the choice between two options:
To get an Xbox One S, you will pay $ 22 a month for a total of $ 528 over two years .
To get an Xbox One X, you will have to pay $ 35 a month for a total of $ 840 over two years .
In either case, you register for a preferred Dell account. You basically get a 24-month interest-free financing deal. This means that you must pass a credit check from your local Microsoft Store to sign up and, for some reason, you can only get All Access in a physical Microsoft Store. Of which there is … not much .
We have encrypted the numbers and even if you can get financing approval, it may not be a good deal. However, whether it's a good deal or not, it depends largely on how you want to look for a better deal.
Avid Deal hunters should probably stay out of this plan
If you're comfortable with trackers like CamelCamelCamel, then you can get better results.
We believe that if you plan to buy an Xbox One via All Access, you are also interested in Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass. It's not wise to pay for something you're not going to use, and as you'll see, you're paying a little more than you could if you did not want to go around your subscriptions.
Let's start by looking at what we will call Scenario S. In this scenario, you want to buy an Xbox One S plus two subscriptions for the full two years. If this is your goal, you have several options:
Option A – Deal Hunter: Pay $ 300 for the console. Throughout the year, look for discounts on Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass. We saw six-month cards for Game Pass at only $ 30 and a year of Xbox Live Gold as low as $ 40 . If you are patient enough to get these deals, two years of Game Pass will cost you $ 120 and two years of Gold will cost $ 80. This puts your total cost from to $ 500 .
Option B – All Access: Pay $ 22 per month for the console and both subscriptions via the new All Access program. That makes your total cost $ 528 . You will spend about $ 28 more than if you were looking for the best deal on individual subscriptions.
Option C – Bulk Subscriptions: Suppose you can afford to pay the six-month or annual Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass intervals, but you do not want to look for business on both . The normal price of the sticker to a year from Xbox Live Gold is $ 60 . The price of the sticker for a six-month card for Game Pass is also $ 60 . This would make your two-year price for both $ 360 subscriptions, for a two year total cost of $ 660 .
Option D – Monthly Subscriptions: Pay $ 300 for the console and pay the monthly price of your subscriptions – $ 15 for Xbox Live Gold and $ 10 for Game Pass. Two years of subscription will cost $ 600 for a total cost of $ 900 . This is by far the least profitable way to do things.
Obviously, option D is the worst way of doing things. You have a high initial cost for the console and a high cost over two years for monthly subscriptions. Now, the monthly option exists for a reason. Some people do not have the time to hunt for the best price on Xbox Live Gold, while others can not afford to pay an entire year at one time. We are not here to judge, but we are here to do math. And the calculation indicates that the D option is between $ 240 and $ 400 more than any other option.
Now let's see what we'll call the X Scenario. Same as before, but this time you want an Xbox One X, plus both subscriptions. Here are your options:
Option A – Deal Hunter: Pay $ 500 for the console. Watch for Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass offers, reducing the cost over two years of your subscriptions to around $ 200. That makes your total $ 700 in two years .
Option B – All Access: Pay $ 35 per month for 24 months as part of the All Access program. With all inclusive, you will spend a total of $ 840 . You pay $ 140 more than what you pay with a meticulous hunt for transactions.
Option C – Bulk Subscriptions: Again, with one year of Xbox Live Gold going up to $ 60, even though it's not for sale, and six months of Game Pass for the same price the subscriptions would be $ 360. Add the price of the console and you get a total of $ 860 over two years .
Option D – Monthly Subscriptions: $ 500 for the console, $ 15 a month for Xbox Live Gold and $ 10 a month for the Game Pass. It is difficult to make an Xbox cost more than that, with an impressive total of $ 1,100 .
Once again, monthly subscription payments will cost you tons of money over two years. Do yourself at least the favor of buying a golden year and six months of Game Pass at a time. However, your absolute cheapest option is to always look for offers on your subscription and put them up for sale whenever you can. So, you should always do that, right?
It depends on your time.
Everyone could save money with all access
On the other hand, if you want everything you want and you do not want to negotiate, All Access may be for you.
but that is another thing to fear. Plus, finding contracts means you have to pay in advance for the console, which costs $ 300 to $ 500. You may not be able to let yourself down so many times. You may prefer to invest if you pay on the console and earn money while you spend. Whatever it is, All Access could be a better deal for some.
In both scenarios above, All Access is at least slightly cheaper than anything except option A. Unless you plan to track sales sites or set up an Amazon price tracking tool, you will save money over two years. by paying everything in one monthly payment, instead of buying it in full.
This is especially true if you want an Xbox One S. Under Scenario S, you will save about $ 132 with All Access over Option C, according to our calculations above. In other words, even if you're not one to look for deals, you'll save enough money with All Access to buy two new games just so you do not have to pay for your console in the first place. With the Xbox One X, there is only a $ 20 difference between options B and C, so you do not earn a ton with All Access, except you do not have to pay for the entire console .
Microsoft offers potential owners of Xbox One a curious deal with All Access. You could save more money by carefully monitoring offers on your subscriptions, especially if you buy an Xbox One X, but if you do not, this new plan can save you a lot of currency, with the added bonus of do not pay a car payment or two just to get the equipment.
Of course, it's worth mentioning the obvious: if you do not want to use Xbox Live Gold or Game Pass, then you do not need to spend a lot. This could mean that All Access is not for everyone, but it's a decent deal for some people.
